All 10 acute care hospital campuses in the Steward Health Care System were awarded an “A” grade in the Fall 2014 update to the Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog.

    Steward Health Care System LLC (Steward) announced today that it filed a letter of intent to the Massachusetts Department of Public Heath to operate a new Satellite Emergency Facility in Quincy. he proposed Steward Satellite Emergency Facility – Quincy would be initially located at 114 Whitwell Street, Quincy and be open to patients 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

    Five Norwood Hospital physicians who were named to Boston Magazine’s 2014 annual Top Doctors list. The Norwood Hospital physicians are obstetrician/gynecologist John Al-Jamal, MD; pediatrician Jonathan Caine, MD; general surgeon Peter Lydon, MD; family medicine specialist James Macek, MD; and psychiatrist Norman Tabroff, MD.

An elite distinction awarded to hospitals nationwide for demonstrating excellence in hospital safety and quality through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Leapfrog Top Hospital award is given to less than seven percent of all eligible hospitals.

    Steward Health Care System LLC (Steward), the largest private provider of inpatient behavioral health services, has added 70 new behavioral health beds to the system in 2014. This includes 15 geriatric psychiatry beds at Carney Hospital in Dorchester and another 15 geriatric psychiatry beds at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton coming online in December.

Carney Hospital was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.

The CAP is the global leader in laboratory quality assurance and the Norwood laboratory is one of only 7,600 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
