    St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center became the first hospital in New England to use the Lutonix 035 Drug Coated Balloon PTA Catheter, a new device to treat patients with peripheral artery disease. The device will offer patients the ability to undergo endovascular procedures to treat peripheral vascular disease that “leave nothing behind” and offers new hope for patients who suffer from symptomatic peripheral vascular disease or are at risk for lower extremity amputations.

    The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) released results of the Medicare Pioneer Accountable Care Organization (ACO) pilot program. In the second year of the program, Steward generated $19.2 million of savings for the Medicare program, the best performance among Massachusetts Pioneers and the second best performance of all Pioneer ACOs in the nation.

    Norwood Hospital has joined hospitals across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by going 100% smoke-free throughout the campus, effective October 1, 2014. The new policy prohibits use of all tobacco products, including cigarettes and e-cigarettes, on the Norwood Hospital campus as well as satellite locations.

    Nashoba Valley Medical Center is among the first hospitals in the region to acquire the Olympus EVIS EXERA III video endoscopy system at its facility in Ayer, Massachusetts. This new endoscopy system uses a video processor, light source, endoscope and monitor, enabling physicians to peer inside the body to diagnose, detect and treat gastrointestinal (GI) diseases and other conditions.
